JL Audio and Modestep get best bass moving
JL Audio UK, representing the powerhouse U.S. performance 12v audio makers, are on a mission to bring that venue-level sound experience, into the cars of appreciative listeners.
And to prove it’s the bass that matters, they teamed up with JL Audio UK Signature Dealer Advanced Vehicle Alarms Ltd (AVA) to fit out a car with cutting edge systems to deliver the richly detailed bass power they’re renowned for.
But really putting JL Audio’s US-engineered sound system through its paces required a proper challenge. So JL Audio UK went to London-based live dubstep bass act Modestep – and the car they fitted out, was none other than Modestep’s very own BMW X6.
Modestep’s bass-heavy sound is a unique fusion of musical influences including dubstep, drum & bass and rock – and of course, it tends to get played loud.
Matt Bilotta, Co-Founder of Bass Music Movement heard the ‘absolutely mind blowing’ sound system at the car’s unveiling, saying:
“The sound that JL Audio and AVA produced in Modestep's vehicle was incredible. I personally have never heard any car system with such loudness, weight and substance which also kept so much clarity.
“As a project the most rewarding part for us at Bass Music Movement was watching the band’s reactions when they first saw and heard what JL Audio and AVA achieved. Ultimately the system has to be heard to be believed!'”
Modestep brothers Josh and Tony Friend first blazed into view in February 2011 when “Feel Good” then July’s “Sunlight” scored cross-over dance chart and Top 40 acclaim.
Tony Friend said he was ‘blown away’ by the ‘absolutely awesome’ sound adding: “I just couldn’t believe it was that loud without being distorted.”
Brother Josh said: “Bass is quite easy to make loud but this has the full frequency, and the loudness of the full frequency, without losing anything, it’s really impressive.”
Tony added: “It was good to be able to listen to the music how it was intended to be heard.”
Both brothers quickly saw ways the system would add value to creating both the live shows, and future studio recordings.
To create in-car sound to replicate the excitement of the live experience, the install featured JL Audio’s High output W6v3 10” subwoofer enclosure, with a C5 speaker set-up in the front of the vehicle, all powered from a 1000W 5 channel XDv2 amplifier.
All the JL Audio Signature Dealer network are highly skilled installers; AVA pulled the stops out, with an eye-catching bespoke install which kept boot space for when Modestep are on the road.
