Prominent teens, tweens, bloggers and entrepreneurs will explore life in the digital age at family-friendly rally

BALTIMORE—September 16, 2013—Organizers announced today a partial line-up of speakers for the Digital Family Summit (www.digitalfamilysummit.com) in Baltimore, Maryland October 11 – 13. Many of the speakers are influential in the digital world and the messages of the leading bloggers, photographers and entrepreneurs will be powerful.

“We have a number of remarkable online professionals who are committed to sharing their expertise and experience with the next generation of digital creators in a way that is both entertaining and useful in the real world,” said conference co-founder Stephanie Schwab. “Additionally, up-and-coming young content creators will be with us to share their experiences and provide inspiration to our attendees.”

More than 200 teens, tweens and family members from across the country will converge in Baltimore for the second annual Digital Family Summit. At the three-day conference, attendees will develop digital content creation skills through hands-on workshops and interactive sessions. In addition, they will learn how to take their creative endeavors to a more professional level, and explore the impact that kids are having on the broader digital culture. Perhaps most importantly, the Digital Family Summit presents an opportunity to meet other like-minded tweens, teens and young adults.

At the same time, parents are invited to join the younger generation to get a better understanding of social media, blogs and other digital outlets their kids love, and learn about why they love them.

“Given the diversity in the talents of our speakers, there is something for everyone to learn in our keynotes, sessions and hands-on workshops,” said Schwab.

Digital Family Summit speakers for 2013 include:

  • Isabel Kallman, founder of Alpha Mom (alphamom.com), a top parenting and lifestyle blog and research company.
  • Amy Mascott, founder and creator of teachmama.com, which shares resources to help parents become stellar teachers for their kids, and the “we teach” forum, which unites parents and teachers so they can share ideas online.
  • Emily Broutian, 10-year-old writer and blogging phenom at XOXOEmily.com.
  • Clay Nichols, co-founder and chief creative officer at DadLabs.com, which is a site aimed at “Super Dads,” and founder of LookOutSocial.com, a site dedicated to keeping kids and families safe online.
  • Lauren & Victoria Coaxum, teen sisters and video bloggers behind the Think Before You Type Campaign (thinkbeforeyoutypecampaign.wordpress.com), focused on encouraging positive self-esteem and putting an end to bullying.

Additional speakers are still being added to the lineup. For an update, visit www.digitalfamilysummit.com/speakers.

About the Digital Family Summit Launched in 2012, the Digital Family Summit was created by parents, friends and family members who watched teens and tweens transfixed and transformed by technology, creating blogs, digital video, Etsy storefronts, pinboards on Polyvore and Pinterest, and tweeting and Facebooking up a storm. Some kids were learning so fast that their parents couldn’t keep up. The Digital Family Summit is a place where tweens/teens and parents at all levels of digital activity can come together to learn and grow as individuals and as a family. Follow the Digital Family Summit on Twitter at @DigiFam, Pinterest, Facebook, YouTube and Google +.
