Bigger kitchens, gardens and a conservatory … Cover4LetProperty reveals what is top of Brits’ wishlists

With many Brits unable to afford to move home due to the recession and more and more people looking to rent, new research* from landlord insurance specialists Cover4LetProperty has revealed what Joe Public would change about their existing accommodation.

The study asked both tenants and owner-occupiers the one thing about their home they would change:

  • over a fifth (22%) would like a bigger kitchen;
  • 20% would like a conservatory;
  • 18% would like a garden (this ties in with other research** from the let property provider which highlighted how 65% of female renters think that having a garden is just as important as the rental cost);
  • 8% would like to change their neighbours – which is more than the 6% who would like a garage or more storage!
  • males are over three times more likely to want a gym or swimming pool compared to females (21% compared to 6%);
  • out of all the age bands (which ranged from 18-60+), those aged 30-39 were the most likely to want a garden, while for the 60+ age band, it was an equal split between more storage and changing the neighbours!
