CDD Sponsored Con de Lange debuts for Scotland
South African-born cricketer, Con de Lange, made his full debut for Scotland last week, against Afghanistan in the ICC Intercontinental Cup.
Having left Northants to focus on his coaching work in Scotland, de Lange completed his 4-year residency to qualify for his adopted nation and was selected to play for Scotland in a non-cap fixture against UAE last month. Throughout this period, he has been sponsored by Cricket Deal Direct, who also sponsor Scotland Captain, Preston Mommsen.
That match was part of Scotland’s preparations for their important ICC Intercontinental Cup fixture against Afghanistan, which started in Stirling on Tuesday. However, the weather has not been kind to the left arm spinner as the first day was washed out and he finally made it to the wicket, only to be out to a loose shot shortly before the close of play. By contrast, Mommsen scored a fine 77 in Scotland’s close of play score of 227-8.
However, de Lange struck with his first ball as a Scotland player, and went on to take three wickets to reduce Afghanistan to 96 for 8 on Stirling’s first day.
Scotland got their own back for February’s world cup defeat against Afghanistan, who trailed by 137 to Scotland’s 233 in this fixture, with Samiullah Shenwari not proving as dangerous as before, batting on a 103-ball 29.
De Lange, also a keen Golfer and Rugby Player, runs CDL Cricket Masters, and previously played for Boland (South Africa), Free State (South Africa) and Northants. De Lange claimed 175 first-class wickets during his domestic cricket career in South Africa as well as scoring a first-class hundred.
