Berkshire schools students line up for Michelin Star lunches
Chef Phil Howard's gourmet school food range for British Food Fortnight celebration
Students at Edgbarrow Secondary School, Charters School, Sandhurst School and St. Crispin's School are being treated to some very special food creations for British Food Fortnight and School caterer Cucina Restaurants for British Food Fortnight running from 22 September to 3 October. The special dishes have been created by renowned double Michelin Star chef Phil Howard, owner and proprietor at top London restaurant 'The Square'.
For these two weeks, students are being offered such dishes as 'Salt and Pepper Drumsticks with Sweetcorn', 'Shepherd's Baked Potato with Melted Onion and Rosemary Relish', 'Cauliflower, Ham and Cheese Croquettes, 'Fish Finger, Slaw and Lettuce Sandwich', 'Pot Roasted Vegetables with a Soft Poached Egg', 'Pea and Bacon Soup with a Sausage Roll and Rarebit', 'Beef and Sausage Cobbler'. And on the dessert menu are such items as 'Hot Chocolate Fudge Pudding', 'Salted Caramel and Chocolate Pot with Lime Shortbread', 'Orange Beignets with Lemon Posset' and 'Vanilla Cream with Blackcurrant Jelly'.
Speaking about this initiative, Cucina MD Steve Quinn said:
"This is a fantastic opportunity for the students at our partner schools to enjoy the very finest of British food made from seasonal, locally produced ingredients. It has been wonderful to collaborate with Phil Howard to prepare thesse British Classics."
Commenting on his participation in this celebration of British food, Phil Howard said:
"One of the amazing things that has happened in the food world in the last ten years is that people are not just talking about provenance and seasonality. It is now real. It's in restaurants and suppliers are aware of it, chefs are aware of it and customers are aware of it. The next thing is to introduce it to schools so that it becomes part and parcel of their understanding to eat local, to eat British and to eat sustainably, and also, healthily. This is a really important thing. To get involved with a company like Cucina, whose mission statement is to feed kids well, is a great thing."
Cucina is also taking part in a special National Harvest Festival organised by Love British Food, to be held at Birmingham Cathedral on 20 October.
