Leigh Academy student team serves gourmet three course meal to 350 Lashings All-Stars guests
School catering team complete clockwork catering operation for All-Stars' charity cricket event at Bexley Cricket Club
On Friday 4 July 2014, a team of 50 students from Leigh Academy in Bexley served a gourmet 3-course lunch to 350 guests for a Lashings All Stars v Leigh Academy celebrity cricket event at Bexley Cricket Club.
Working with a six-man chef team from the academy's catering firm Cucina, the students served a smoked salmon roulade starter, followed by a main course of roasted chicken breast with chorizo, butter bean estofado with garlic and thyme, followed by individual apple tarts with beignet soufflé and warm chocolate sauce.
Commenting on the success of the event, Tony Ridgwell, Operations Manager for Cucina, said:
"This is the third year we have done the catering for this event. As well as the food, we've had some lovely comments from the guests about how friendly and efficient the service was."
Lashings All Stars Event Manager James Honey-Green said: "The food was very good indeed, and well received by all. And the Year 10 students from Leigh Academy did a fantastic job serving the food. Getting them involved was a wonderful initiative and I would love to see this at many more of our events."
The cricket match itself was full of big hitting, with the Leigh Academy side eventually falling just 47 runs short of the Lashings total - a creditable effort against a Lashings team that included many of world cricket's all-time greats, including Herschelle Gibbs, Saqulain Mushtaq, Devon Malcolm, Phillip DeFreitas, Corey Collymore and John Emburey.
