A Tamworth woman who has spent her career in public service has been rewarded with the Imperial Service Medal.

Sandra Tedd, who lives in Dostill, Tamworth, retired in March last year. She was presented with the medal on 2nd February in recognition of a working life spent as a civil servant. This included time at the Highways Agency, Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs and since 2009, the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) in Sutton Coldfield.

Miss Tedd said:

“I joined the Civil Service in 1970. I’ve always been proud to say I’m a civil servant and coming here today to receive this medal is the icing on the cake.”

The presentation was made by Air Vice Marshal Elaine West of the Defence Infrastructure Organisation at their headquarters in Sutton Coldfield where Miss Tedd worked.

Air Vice Marshal West said:

“It’s a real pleasure for me to present Sandra with this medal in front of many of her old colleagues. I know they are as delighted as I am to see her years of hard work and dedicated service being recognised in this way.”

The Imperial Service Medal is awarded to civil servants in the grade of Administrative Officer and below, who have served faithfully and well for at least 25 years. It was instituted by King Edward VII in 1902 in a bid to ensure recognition for the service provided to him by members of the Civil Service.

Notes to Editors

1) The Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) plays a vital role in supporting our Armed Forces by building, maintaining and servicing what the men and women who serve our country need to live, work, train and deploy on operations.

2) DIO is part of the Ministry of Defence (MOD). It is responsible for managing and maintaining land and properties, as well as providing related support services, to meet the current and future      needs of the MOD and personnel at home and abroad, and to support current operations.

3) Our work includes supporting operational units by providing and improving single living and service family accommodation; training areas and historic military sites. DIO actively manages these to ensure the needs of Defence are met, value for money is achieved, and its heritage is protected, and to achieve its environmental goals.
