Plastic Film Receives European Fire Approval

A PVC film that had been treated for flame retardation with Apyrum met the criteria for attaining Euro class B, one of the most important commercial fire classifications that exists. The fire test was carried out by an official English test institute.

Riflex Film's developmental success continues as yet another flame-retarded PVC film has been approved. The film was developed for a customer and is plasticized with a biological plasticizer and flame retarded with the environmentally-friendly flame retardant Apyrum. The commercially important and widely used fire class Euro class Bs1d0 was the fire test that was used for testing the product. This fire class is used for the control of a large number of different building materials and has been implemented throughout all of Europe.

This signifies an important technical and and commercial breakthrough, and the result is unique since this fire class has been able to be attained without the use of the toxic substance antimony in a PVC film that has a very strong environmental profile.

“The results are based on previous knowledge concerning the functioning of Apyrum in PVC and demonstrates that the system is both robust and commercially viable, “ states Fredrik Westin, Managing Director of DEFLAMO.

“We are pleased to have been able to cooperate with Riflex, and the success is a result of Riflex Film's commitment to product development and effort to be on the cutting edge with regards to the environment, quality, and technology,” continues Fredrik Westin.

Anders Leideflak, Commercial Manager of Riflex, says, “The new PVC film is important in many aspects. The environmental properties of the product strengthen its competitiveness, and the fire classification is also commercially important, thereby allowing us to reach out to a large and important European market.”
