Ahead of the first event on the Enjoy the Taste of Scotland road show calendar this weekend in Elgin (8th May 2010), Tesco has announced that Quality Meat Scotland (QMS) will sponsor the road show series across the country this summer. Angus Bell, Local Buying Manager for Tesco in Scotland said: “We are delighted that QMS has teamed up with Tesco for the ‘Enjoy the Taste of Scotland’ events around the country. The events provide local and regional producers with an opportunity to showcase their products to hundreds of visitors, who will be able to try and buy direct from the producers.” Gordon Sloan, Marketing Executive for QMS, said: “The event is a good opportunity for us as it coincides with the launch of our latest campaign to promote Specially Selected Pork and is taking place in the heart of Scotland’s main pig producing region. It helps highlight the health and welfare standards that underpin the Specially Selected Pork brand and will hopefully convince shoppers to look for the brand as a sign of pork with provenance and production guarantees.” Visitors attending the Elgin event, which is being officially opened by Richard Lochhead MSP, will be able to take a culinary tour of the region, browsing stalls and meeting the enthusiastic producers from all over Scotland. The Elgin event will feature: The Tesco Cookery Theatre – with cookery demonstrations from Harbour Lights, Restaurant 55 and Chapter One chefs, Ready Steady Cook with Moray Firth Radio, Kids Smoothies with Tesco’s Home Economist and Whisky cocktails with Gordon and Macphail. The Tesco Fair– a collection of producer marquees and stands as well as a variety of activities and great entertainment including the Hall’s Haggis Shy, milking ‘Bella’ the Wiseman’s life size cow, a craft corner, face painting and even the chance for kids to come and taste, plant and grow their own herbs.
