About autism prevalence and the need for communication aids
Research indicates that approximately 1 in 100 (1%) children worldwide are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The trend shows that prevalence estimates have increased over time, which is likely due to increased awareness, better diagnostic practices, and changes in diagnostic criteria.  For example, in the U.S., the prevalence was about 1 in 150 children in 2000 (0.7%), and it has risen to 1 in 36 children (2.8%) by 2020. Prevalence also varies significantly across regions.

According to research, approximately 25-30% of children in the world with ASD are considered non-verbal. This means that they may not develop functional speech or have very limited verbal abilities. These children often rely on alternative forms of communication, such as communication aids, to interact with others.
