Sweden's leading infrastructure group, Eleda, acquires Hanell Entreprenad AB and Flexirail AB, both of which have extensive experience in the maintenance of railways. Eleda is also strengthening its leading position in civil engineering in Stockholm by acquiring Marbit AB.

About the companies

  • Hanell Entreprenad AB performs maintenance, signalling and inspection services in the railway sector. They are based in Gävle.
  • Flexirail AB conducts operation, maintenance, reconstruction and new construction of railway facilities. They are located in Nyköping.
  • Marbit AB are specialists in landscaping, maintenance and outdoor environments. Their headquarters are in Bromma.

The three companies are acquired from Vestum and all senior executives in the companies become shareholders in Eleda.

Strategic investment in railways

"Eleda wants to grow in the railway sector, where we see significant growth opportunities in the coming years. We value being involved in maintaining and developing the railway, as it is an important part of a functioning and sustainable society. In Norway, we have extensive experience of railway maintenance, and we are now taking further steps to build up that expertise in Sweden as well," says Ellinor Thiel, incoming CEO of Eleda from January 2025.

"At Hanell, we look forward to continuing our journey within Eleda where we see clear synergies with other companies within the Group. It will be great fun to contribute to Eleda's investment in railway related to track, electricity, signal and telecommunications," says Mattias Renstål, CEO and founder of Hanell.

"We have extensive experience in railway facilities, and it feels inspiring to be part of a large group of successful entrepreneurs. Together, we have all the prerequisites to grow in rail and with safety and quality in focus, we can develop the infrastructure in our society," says Fredrik Jodstam, CEO of FlexiRail.

Strengthening in the most significant construction market

"With Marbit, we strengthen our position as a leading player in the civil engineering market in Stockholm. We are already in that segment, and I look forward to further developing our offering with Marbit, a high-performing company in a competitive market. All three companies we are now acquiring fit well into our entrepreneurial culture. Based on our decentralised Eleda model, we will create both growth and collaborations," says Johan Halvardsson, CEO of Eleda and incoming Chairman of the Board from January 2025.

"We see great value in being part of one of Sweden's leading players in critical infrastructure. We have long been impressed by the development of Eleda Group's companies. We feel both proud and confident about being a part of it. Together with Eleda's specialist expertise and broad experience in construction, we are convinced that we will become an even stronger player in the Stockholm market," says Kristofer Karlström, CEO of Marbit.

The transaction is subject to closing conditions, including approval by the competition authorities.
