Tapio Wirkkala – Sculptor 14.10.2009- 10.1.2010 is the first exhibition to be devoted solely to the sculpture of Tapio Wirkkala (1915-1985). To a considerable degree Tapio Wirkkala’s image is based on his significant career as a designer but this amazingly versatile artist was also a sculptor. A pioneer in Finnish abstract sculpture, Wirkkala began his career as a sculptor and at no time afterwards did he desert this art form. Gems from its collections at the EMMA summer exhibition

The exhibition, Look at EMMA’s Collections – Treasure islands and daydreams, presents the best of EMMA’s own collections. The greater part of the EMMA – Espoo Museum of Modern Art collections comprise contemporary art of the period in which the pieces were acquired so that the exhibition features a wide range of today’s art and reflects how changes in society and the concept of art have affected collection acquisitions.
