The Finnish National Opera and Ballet is looking for a new Artistic Director for the Finnish National Ballet, as the term of Kenneth Greve, who has held the position since 2008, ends in summer 2018. The new Artistic Director will be signed on for a four-year period, 1 August 2018 to 31 July 2022, with a two-year renewal option.

“We are looking for someone with vision and expertise in ballet who is also internationally networked. He or she will continue the fine work that Kenneth Greve has been doing. During his time here, the FNB has developed hugely. I appreciate his contribution not just with the FNB but as a member of the management team too,” says General Director Päivi Kärkkäinen. The appointment has been announced in Finland and abroad.

“I will leave the FNB in 2018 with contentment but of course also with a heavy heart. It has been a wonderful ten years. Now it is time for my family to decide where we will go next. My wife is French, and our son is already studying in France, so we will be relocating in that direction,” says Danish-born Kenneth Greve.

According to the preliminary timetable, the new appointee will be selected before summer 2017 so that the Director will have plenty of time to participate in repertoire planning.

The FNB is Finland’s only full-sized professional ballet company. Its members represent more than 20 nationalities.
