Madeleine Onne has been appointed as the new Artistic Director of the Finnish National Ballet. The Board of the Finnish National Opera and Ballet made their final decision in a meeting held today, Tuesday October the 10th. The Board invited the personnel groups of the Opera and Ballet to share their views on the appointment, and their statements were unanimously positive. Madeleine Onne proposed to become the Artistic Director of the Finnish National Ballet

The Board of the Finnish National Opera and Ballet decided upon the proposal today.In a meeting held today, on Friday September the 29th, the Board of the Finnish National Opera and Ballet decided to propose Madeleine Onne as the Artistic Director of the FNB. The proposal took place following a motion by the General Director Päivi Kärkkäinen, which had been unanimously supported by the nomination and remuneration committee appointed by the board. The board will make their final decision over the appointment of the Artistic Director after hearing personnel groups on October the 10th, 2017.

­­Award-winning Finnish novel Ice is adapted into an opera

In January 2019 the Finnish National Opera will host the world premiere of a new opera from Finland based on Ulla-Lena Lundberg’s bestselling novel Ice. The novel was awarded the Finlandia prize, Finland’s most prestigious literary award, in 2012. The opera will be composed by Jaakko Kuusisto and the libretto in Finnish will be written by Juhani Koivisto. The director of the production will be Anna Kelo. Season 2017–2018 at the Finnish National Opera and Ballet also presents impressive Finnish world premieres, with both Höstsonaten – Autumn Sonata

Finland’s centenary celebrated at the Royal Danish Theatre with premiere of The Snow QueenQueen Margarethe of Denmark plans to attend the premiere of The Snow Queen to be performed by the Finnish National Ballet in Copenhagen next week, on Friday 27 January, along with Finland’s Prime Minister Juha Sipilä who will visit Denmark on a working visit and host the evening as chairman of the ‘Finland 100’ delegation.
