Solberg wind power park inaugurated in Sweden

Thursday the 13 September saw the formal opening of the 75.9 megawatt Solberg wind power park situated 100 kilometers northwest of Örnsköldsvik, Sweden. The wind park is owned by Fortum and Skellefteå Kraft in equal shares and its annual production is estimated to be 253 gigawatt hours (GWh).

The project is an important step in the implementation of Fortum’s strategy to grow in wind and solar power on a gigawatt scale.

"Sweden is a natural choice for Fortum in wind power. It is one of our largest home markets and there we have the majority of our hydro capacity that is crucial in balancing the variability in wind power production. Solberg is the second wind park where we successfully cooperate with Skellefteå Kraft,” says Tuomo Sinisalmi, Head of Wind Construction and Operations, Fortum.

Solberg wind power park consists of 22 wind turbines delivered by Vestas. 

“There aren’t that many sites in Sweden that have wind conditions suitable for large scale land based wind power parks but Solberg is one of those. We are also pleased to have had the possibility to once more cooperate with Fortum,” says Hans Kreisel, CEO of Skellefteå Kraft.

Sweden has a market-based electricity certificate support system for renewable electricity production.
