Gapwaves receives order for development of automotive radar antenna
Gapwaves has signed an agreement with a tier 1 supplier for development of antenna prototypes for 77 GHz automotive radar. The agreement refers to development and production of antenna prototypes based on the gap waveguide technology and the customer’s specifications. The antenna prototypes will be delivered during first quarter 2019 for tests and evaluations. Total order value is ca 0.7 MSEK.
As a result of the progress within the development of active safety systems (ADAS), the demands from the automotive industry for better radar solutions have increased. Automotive radars are currently used for applications such as adaptive cruise control and blind spot detection but the fields of use are expected to increase in the future. The gap waveguide technology enables for an efficient, low-losses, antenna for 77 GHz millimeter wave radar providing a larger field of view and better performance compared to today’s radar solutions.
The agreed scope of work means that Gapwaves, with the gap waveguide technology as basis, will develop antenna prototypes based on the customer’s specifications. The prototypes will thereafter be tested and evaluated by the customer. The customer is a tier 1 supplier of radars to the automotive industry. The agreement refers to development of antennas for short distance radars which are expected to make up the largest part of automotive radar volumes going forward.
”We are very pleased for this agreement. This is a milestone for Gapwaves, that hopefully, will lead to the gap technology becoming a preferred antenna technology for next generation automotive radars”, says Lars-Inge Sjöqvist, CEO at Gapwaves.
