Edwardian clothing and hickory sticks for one day only at Garforth Golf Club
Sunday 7 July 2013
Garforth Golf Club’s Centenary year will see the clock being turned back 100 years on Sunday 7 July, when the club hosts an Edwardian Golf Day as part of its special programme of centenary events.
The British Golf Collectors Society has agreed to a challenge where their members will play with and against members of Garforth Golf Club. Play will be over the full 18 holes of the Alister MacKenzie designed course and players will be dressed in Edwardian outfits as were the first golfers to enjoy the course back in 1913.The golfers will be using hickory shafted golf clubs which no doubt will prove an interesting experience compared to modern day golf equipment.
The golf will be followed by a slide presentation on 'The Golden Years of Golf ' and a golfing 'Antiques Road Show ' where members will have the opportunity to have their golfing memorabilia valued.
Club Captain for 2013 Andy King said, "Our members are already looking forward to the Edwardian Golf Day. It will be another highlight of what is turning out to be a fantastic Centenary Year."
