Press release from Getinge Industrier and invitation to conference call Getinge acquires ALM - world leader in surgical lighting systems * Global leader in surgical lighting equipment * Significant synergies * Strong distribution capabilities in US, France and UK Getinge has acquired 100 % of ALM, situated at Orléans France. ALM designs and manufactures equipment for operating rooms, intensive care units, emergency rooms and recovery rooms. The equipment includes surgical lights, operating tables and ceiling service units. Expansion The acquisition is in line with previously communicated strategy that Getinge is going to take an active part in the consolidation of the global market for surgical systems equipment. This market is estimated to amount to 8 billion SEK. Getinge will through the acquisition of ALM hold a market share of 40% in surgical tables, 20% in surgical lights and appr. 5-10% of ceiling service units. ALM with headquarters and final assembly facility at Ardon near Orléans has sales of 490 million FRF and employs appr. 300 persons ALM's global market share for surgical lights amounts to 20%, the surgical tables market share is 7 - 8% and the market share for for ceiling service units is 5 - 10 %. ALM has own sales companies in UK, US, France, Italy, Spain and China and operates elsewhere through a network of distributors and agents in more that 50 countries. Integration and synergies ALM will form the group's center of excellence for principally surgical lighting equipment and ceiling service units, within the newly established business area Surgical Systems. Significant synergies are expected in the field of sales and marketing. ALM's world leading lighting products will be distributed through the existing sales channels of recently aquired Maquet. "Through the acquisition of ALM, Getinge is adding a world class company to its surgical systems dominion", says CEO Johan Malmquist. "ALM's lighting products are recognised as industry standard and the combination of ALM, Maquet and Getinge will constitute the world's biggest player in the field of surgical workplaces with sales of 2 billion SEK". The acquisition is expected to have a positive impact on Getinge's earnings per share during 2001. Financing the acquisition The acquisition of ALM will together with the recent acquisition of Maquet be financed by external loans and by a new share issue.
