Swiss flow solutions expert GF Piping Systems will display results from a new study which shows how plastic piping systems in HVAC applications can make passenger ships more efficient and sustainable. The presentation will take place on  April 5th  at 14:00, at room E1.

How can shipbuilders and shipowners lower their CO2 emissions and fuel consumption while saving costs at the same time? The entire marine industry is faced with this question in the search for technical solutions that make shipping more sustainable. For this reason, GF Piping Systems decided to conduct an energy efficiency study in collaboration with Foreship, an international ship design and engineering company. The study compares pre-insulated plastic piping with traditional post-insulated steel piping in an air conditioning cooled water system onboard a simulated cruise ship. The results will be presented at Room E1 by Roberto Chiesa, Head of Business Development Marine at GF Piping Systems

The study was conducted in three phases: In the first phase, the energy consumption of a baseline steel piping system was compared to the polyethylene COOL-FIT system by GF Piping Systems. In the second phase, the results of this comparison were used to determine fuel savings, emissions reductions as well as cost-effectiveness. And in the last phase, the study compared the values for the Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Design Index (EEXI) and the Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII).

Roberto Chiesa is looking forward to presenting the results: “Nor-Shipping 2022 is about taking positive action to find sustainable solutions for our industry. It is therefore the perfect setting to talk about our energy efficiency study as the findings show how even small optimizations like the right piping material can have far-reaching positive effects for the entire ship.”

GF Piping Systems will also  display its cutting-edge sustainable piping systems for the marine industry at Nor-Shipping in Hall D, booth D D04-20. Experts will answer questions regarding energy savings and around piping systems for the marine sector. These include solutions for fresh cold and hot water, sewage, air conditioning and drinking water. As an expert for plastic piping systems and a sustainability leader, GF Piping Systems aims to make water and HVAC applications onboard ships safe, cost-effective, maintenance-free, and more hygienic.
