Diplomas were awarded to participants of the Executive MBA program 2017-2019 who graduated on June 14 at the School of Business, Economics and Law in Gothenburg. 23 participants completed the 21-month management training program taught in English and focused on leadership and executive business management in a global market. At the end of the program, participants wrote a thesis in which the theoretical skills they have learned are linked with practical application. The part-time program is Sweden's only Executive MBA that is Triple Crown accredited by the Association of MBAs (AMBA), EQUIS and AACSB.

This year’s graduates represent both small and medium-sized companies, as well as multinational groups, including SKF, Borås municipality, AstraZeneca, Hartmann Group, Prevent Bevakning, HSB and Volvo Cars. At the start of the program, the participants had, on average, over 10 years of work experience in senior positions. Participants also had a wide range of previous academic degrees including law, technology and economics, architecture and medicine. There have proven to be many benefits resulting from a diverse composition of the group, with project tasks and problems being better highlighted from different perspectives.

Background information
The Executive MBA program extends over 21 months and the participants meet Thursday through Saturday every three weeks to listen to and learn from experienced lecturers from all over the world, each of them being experts in their respective fields. During the program, the participants acquire knowledge from the latest research findings in leadership, along with practical skills required to manage current business challenges and explore new opportunities. The program has a Nordic-Asian focus. Twice during the program, the participants travel to Asia to get current perspectives on how Asian economies and societies are developing, as well as to experience first-hand the Chinese and Indian cultures. During the final semester, participants write an academic essay corresponding to 15 credits (ECTS).

Here's how two of this year’s graduates reflect on their time in the program:
“During the Executive MBA program, I have gained many new insights that are very useful in my daily work with sustainability issues and business development. The connection to research provides a depth of knowledge and a way of working that I will continue to apply when I want to discover the latest findings in a particular area. Last but not least, I am incredibly happy about my new network and the contacts I have made thanks to the program. I would warmly recommend an Executive MBA to anyone who wants to take a further step in their professional and personal development!” says Jessika Lind Petrén, Head of Sustainability and Public Affairs at Stena Metal.

“The last two years of education have stretched, enlightened and shaped me into a more rounded and self-reflective professional. The diverse selection of industry guest speakers, visiting global Professors, and study tours to India and China, have challenged my take of leadership and management, and has provide me with inspiration on future macro trends. The structure and pace of the program was also well designed, allowing time for reflection, application of learnings into daily work activities, and balance with professional and personal commitments. If you want to discover more about yourself, and enhance your professional and personal capabilities, then the Gothenburg Executive MBA is a great next step”, says Scott Henshaw, Senior Product Manager & Business Development Acoustics, Cochlear Bone Anchored Solutions.
