The School of Business, Economics and Law was proud to kick-off the Executive MBA programme 2014-2016 during a three-day session October 2-4. During 21 months, the 22 participants will study part-time, meeting for face-to-face sessions (called modules) with lecturers from around the world every third weekend. Each module focuses on a specific subject. The programme is taught entirely in English, has been lauded for its Nordic-Asian focus and is the only Executive MBA programme in Sweden accredited by the Association of MBAs (AMBA).

This year’s cohort exhibits the very diversity that the School strives to establish: seven participants out of a total of 22 are women, participants have their origins in Belgium, Bangladesh, Mexico, Norway, Sweden and Zimbabwe, the median age is 39 years. A blend of SMEs and large international groups have appointed their top talents to acquire knowledge and tools to dramatically further their business skills and career potential: Ascom, Bulten, Emerson, Gunnebo, Husqvarna, Mellby Gård, Stena, Volvo Cars and Volvo Group, to just mention a few.

In line with the Asian focus of the programme, the participants will enjoy two separate 10-day overseas modules at elite universities in China and India.

The first module focuses on Strategic Management of organisations. The participants will learn how to analyse the business environment and, based on that analysis, formulate coherent strategies for their organisations.

– It is highly rewarding to see how the participants develop, already during these first few days of the programme. The diversity of the class as well as the faculty will greatly enhance the participants’ abilities to lead in an increasingly complex and challenging global business environment, says Prof. P.D. Jose, Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) and lecturer of the Strategic Management module.

– I am delighted to have such an inquisitive group of people in class. Questions and comments abounded during the first sessions and I am certain that they will learn a lot from each other, says Dr. Andreas Diedrich, Programme Director.

– I have a Master of Science degree in Industrial Engineering. I do look forward to developing through interaction with lecturers and fellow participants. Living and working in Gent, Belgium, I will travel to Gothenburg for the Thursday-Saturday modules, says Nele Van de Veire of Volvo Car Corporation.
