GuideStar Exchange Seal Holder Golden Gate Basset Rescue, Inc. Received the Most Donations in November and December 2011 and Won $5,000

Washington, DC—January 12, 2011—GuideStar, the leading source of nonprofit information, today announced the winner of the 2011 Giving Season Giveaway. Golden Gate Basset Rescue, Inc., a GuideStar Exchange Seal holder that rescues Basset Hounds from abusive, abandoned and unwanted situations and rehabilitates homeless animals in foster homes while evaluating behavior and health problems, received the highest number of donations in November and December 2011 and won the prize of $5,000, furnished by KIMBIA.

“Congrats to Golden Gate Basset Rescue for their incredible push to receive donations,” said José Fernández, director of the GuideStar Exchange. “We know that times were really tough for them, and we are thrilled that our Giving Season Giveaway could provide much-needed support to such a deserving, transparent nonprofit. And although only one nonprofit could win the $5,000 prize, we hope that every organization that participated received increased contributions.”

In the past two months, more than 1,690 donations were submitted through GuideStar, generating more than $251,000 in donations to hundreds of organizations. More than 670 organizations registered to compete in the contest, and more than 315 GuideStar Exchange Seal holders registered on or before the contest’s deadline.

“In the current economic climate, we have seen a steady increase each year of basset hounds being surrendered to us,” stated Gloria Tannehill-Carlsen, president of Golden Gate Basset Rescue. “In December 2011 we had just $300 in our bank and we had effectively ceased accepting new intakes. Taking part in the contest gave our end of year donation appeal an added interest and increased our usual receipts by around 75 percent. Added to our increased donation income, the prize will enable us to become fully operational again with immediate effect, and we will use the money as a springboard and inspiration for our fundraising efforts.”

"We were honored to have the opportunity to actively support this contest, made possible through the generosity of KIMBIA, our online giving partner," added Fernández. “We extend our wholehearted congratulations to all of the contest participants, and encourage other nonprofits across the country to participate in the GuideStar Exchange. There is no better way to be fully transparent about their inner-workings, which is always a top concern of donors and funders.”
