Haglöfs donates trees with a new app
This spring the outdoor company Haglöfs is launching an app which aims to connect the consumer's outdoor activities with tree planting in East Africa. The project is run in cooperation with Vi Agroforestry, and represents yet another side of Haglöfs' sustainability efforts.
Being aware and taking responsibility are long-established watchwords for Haglöfs. Topics such as environmental impact, working conditions and human rights have existed as parameters in Haglöfs’ development during modern times. Sustainability issues are currently fully integrated into its day-to-day activities, and the sustainability work is an ongoing process in which Haglöfs consistently searches for ways to improve.
During the spring Haglöfs is launching an app which aims to make consumers use their outdoor activities as a way of making a contribution to tree planting. Once downloaded, the app sends out weekly challenges and for each completed challenge Haglöfs donates a tree to the organization Vi Agroforestry, who in turn plants the tree in the area around Lake Victoria. Tree planting brings reduced poverty, increased access to food, increased biological diversity and climate adaptation.
“The project is not just another part of our sustainability efforts, but is also a very simple way for the consumer to contribute to the improved daily life of many people. Simply by downloading the app we donate one tree, and if you complete all the challenges we then donate a total of 11 trees,” says Lennart Ekberg, Director of Sustainability at Haglöfs.
The Haglöfs' app can be downloaded on Google Play or the App Store and the project runs from March 10 to May 17.
Vi Agroforestry is a Swedish aid organization who through tree planting works to fight poverty and improve the environment around Lake Victoria in East Africa. Since its foundation in 1983, the organization has helped to plant over 100 million trees and improved the lives of over one million families.
