BRITAIN'S BEST BIKE RIDE REVEALED
For years drivers have had Route 66, motorcyclists the Snake Pass and even horse riders have cantered the Wessex Way. Now, thanks to a cyclist led series in the UK's leading cycling magazine, Cycling Plus, the six finalists for the Best Road Ride In Britain have been announced.
Halfords, Boardman Bikes and Cycling Plus embarked upon the mammoth task of selecting the six rides. Carefully deliberating through a list nominated by readers, six were selected and ridden by the magazine’s editorial team, led by Rob Spedding. These rides were videoed and can be viewed here and are available for public vote here.
Rides from all over the country were entered. From scenery to the satisfaction and challenge of the ride, all elements of a good bike ride were discussed and the six finalists were whittled down to…

Broughton Wheelers Lakes Loops – Lake District, Cumbria
Yorkshire Dales - Yorkshire
Barnstable – North Devon
Elan Valley - Mid Wales
Applecross - North Scotland
The shortlist even included the favourite ride of Olympic Champion Chris Boardman (MBE), who commented: “Every keen cyclist will have their favourite ‘go to’ ride. For me its Dee Valley where I can just turn the pedals and forget about the every day stresses of life and just enjoy being out on my bike. I’m sure it’s why cycling is so popular.”
Rob Spedding, Editor of Cycling Plus editor, says, “When we set out to find Britain's Best Ride I expected Cycling Plus readers to come up with some stunning routes, but I was still surprised at just how incredible the entries would be. From the Scottish Highlands down to the West of England, British road cyclists are blessed with amazing places to ride their bikes and indulge their passion. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that we're actually lucky enough to boast some of the best rides in the world!
