DEATH OF THE TAX DISC SEES HALFORDS MAKE WAY FOR HELPFUL MOTORING MERCHANDISE

As tomorrow marks the end of the traditional paper tax disc, Halfords is making fresh use of the space once occupied by the plastic and metal tax disc holders in its stores.

Halfords has sold over 3 million tax disc holders over the last 6 years but, as the DVSA moves into a digital age, the leading automotive retailer will also be using its new found shelf space to expand its range of technology-oriented products.

Halfords Product Manager Richard Bowen says: “When the first paper tax disc was issued in the UK over 90 years ago, no-one could have predicted how long the paper system would last or what modern motoring technologies lay ahead.

“The rise of satelite navigation, smartphones and tablet computers, have all helped to create demand from motorists to stay connected safely whilst on the move, so the death of the tax disc means that we’ve been able to respond to this demand and broaden the range of in-car travel accessories that meet today’s needs.”

The top 3 helpful products replacing the humble tax disc holder on Halfords shelves are:

Green Smartphone Holder - using a mobile illegally at the wheel costs drivers £10 million a year in fines. This colourful universal phone holder means you’re hand-sfree and can also grip iPods, Audio/DVD remote controls, digital cameras.

Headrest iPad & Tablet Mount – playing ‘I Spy’ on long journeys is a thing of the past. This handy head-rest mount for your computer means games, movies, music and internet can help keep back seat passengers entertained.

Twin USB Car Charger - because mobile devices need power/charging regularly. This converts your 12v socket into a charger/power source suitable for most smartphones, MP3 players and tablets.
