HALFORDS AUTOCENTRES LAUNCHES ULTIMATE SURVIVAL GUIDE TO HELP MOTORISTS FIGHT BACK AGAINST WINTER

Report this content

Halfords Autocentres has created the ultimate guide to safer winter motoring to help drivers survive the seasonal dangers that face them when behind the wheel.

With temperatures beginning to fall, the free Winter Survival Guide brings together advice from the SAS, vehicle handling experts MIRA, RED Driving School, Team Dynamics Racing and the St John Ambulance in one authoritative handbook packed with hints and tips.

Halfords Autocentres’ Stefan Warhaftig said: “We have worked with renowned experts in their field - including former SAS Sergeant Major John ‘Lofty’ Wiseman and three-time British Touring Car Champion Matt Neal - to share their knowledge and experience with other drivers in a format that is easy to digest.

“Almost half of motorists (48%) are anxious or frightened about driving in poor weather conditions - up slightly from last year (44%) despite the relatively mild temperatures, so we hope our Winter Survival Guide will give motorists the confidence to handle almost any situation they encounter this winter.”

Halfords Autocentres’ annual winter motoring study also found that over half (56%) of drivers have experienced a skid in winter – over half of which caused them to leave the road or collide with another car or other stationary object – and 8 out of 10 drivers (88%) don’t know when the water on flooded roads is too deep to drive through.

The Winter Survival Guide is free to download and contains 16 chapters tackling scenarios covering: planning & preparation, rain, ice and snow conditions as well as general advice on subjects such as first aid. There is also a series of accompanying films covering key chapters.

SAS survival instructor Lofty Wiseman added: “There are two things I can’t teach - common sense and experience.  Common sense is taking advice and listening to the experts.  Experience is what you get when you don’t!

“I hope anyone planning to drive during the winter follows the advice contained in this guide and enjoys many more miles of safe motoring.”

The Winter Survival Guide is free to download and provides an invaluable glovebox companion. It contains illustrations that help bring the content to life as well as a few more light-hearted entries that entertain as well as inform.
