HALFORDS BRINGS FIGHTER JET TECHNOLOGY DOWN TO EARTH FOR MOTORISTS

Halfords has introduced its first product to incorporate ‘Head-up Display’ (HUD) technology - a portable navigation device for motorists.

The Garmin HUD+ takes this cutting-edge technology, which is routinely used to display vital information to fighter jet pilots, and uses it to project direction, speed and journey times onto a vehicle’s windscreen.

Using a HUD reduces the time that drivers spend looking away from the road at the car dashboard to obtain information on the move – with obvious safety and convenience benefits.

Dave Poulter, Halfords Auto Category Director, said: “Until now HUD technology has only been available through a small number of premium car manufacturers like BMW and Lexus as an optional extra on some of their models.  However, this new Garmin HUD unit brings the cost down to earth and makes it accessible to everyone.”

The Garmin HUD+ sits discretely on the dashboard providing valuable journey information - including speed, traffic and safety camera alerts. The device links with both Android and Apple smartphones via Bluetooth and drivers input journey information using the free accompanying Garmin HUD App (usually £75 via App stores).

The arrival of Garmin HUD+ coincides with a new market report* released this week, which predicts the Head-Up Display Market Projected will grow to around £4.8 billion ($8.3bn US Dollars) by 2020.

Dave Poulter “We believe that products featuring HUD technology will continue to increase. The number of electronic entertainment and safety systems on-board vehicles continues to grow and drivers need to be kept informed of their status whilst behind the wheel without unnecessary distraction.”

The Garmin HUD+ is available to purchase online at halfords.com from today.
