Kids Get Bike Savvy with Free Bike Workshop from Halfords this Easter

This Easter, Halfords is helping kids get bike savvy by hosting entry-level bike workshops for children, worth £10 per head, at 420 of its stores nationwide, each Wednesday of the school Easter holidays.

Over 48,000 children and parents have benefitted from this free-of-charge workshop that teaches 7-11 year-olds the basics of things to check on their bike. The session is ideal for kids who have little to no experience of bike maintenance and repair.

Halfords’ Community and CSR Manager, Emma Thomas, said: ‘The free-of-charge workshop aims to ignite a lifelong passion and interest in cycles with top tips on how to keep safe when you’re out and about on your bike. Our research shows 82% of parents want cycling proficiency added to the National Curriculum – and the fact that thousands of children have benefited from our bike workshops shows how important cycling education is.”

The workshop shows children – and their parents – the key things to check on a bike as well as advice on how to keep safe. The session provides a perfect starting point for children to go back home and, together with their parents, make sure their bikes are safe.

Children who take part in the workshops will receive a certificate, a 10% discount voucher to spend at Halfords and entry into a competition to win a bike. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Places are limited so go to www.halfords.com/bikeclub to check availability and to book a space, or speak to a member of the store team.

As well as offering kids’ bike workshops at stores nationwide, to date Halfords has also taught 12,000 pupils in their final year of primary school bike maintenance and safety at schools across the country. 7,500 Cubs have attended free workshops at Halfords’ stores towards their Cyclist Activity Badge. 150,000 cyclists have been supported by Halfords’ cycle mechanic crew at 40 organised rides, from families at Sky Ride Events to multi-country events. Halfords has also donated 10,000 bikes through national trade-in events, giving the customers the opportunity to donate unwanted bikes at any of Halfords’ 466 stores.
