THE DREAM ROAD TRIP PASSENGERS THAT GET OUR MOTORS RUNNING
When given the choice of sharing a road trip with George Clooney, Brad Pitt, or their regular partner, you might have thought it was an easy decision for motorists to make.
It was, six out of ten (61%) said their choice of dream passenger on a long car journey would be their partner or best friend, in the survey for Halfords. A further one in nine (11%) said the only company they wanted was their sat nav.
The favourite famous faces that motorists would like to share a journey with are better known for delivering laughs than looks - with comedy stars David Walliams and Graham Norton joint favourites among 11% of drivers.
Mary Berry came a surprise fourth (4.3%) - perhaps people thought she would bring cakes or share some kitchen secrets – narrowly beating Cheryl Cole into fifth place (4.1%).
Halfords carried out the research to promote its new prize draw to win one of five Range Rover Evoques - worth a combined £225,000 - which customers buying any size and any brand of engine oil in mainland UK are entered into free of charge.
Louise Robinson, car maintenance category manager, said: “Going on a journey with someone is certainly a good way to get to know them but the message here was clear. The majority of people would far rather be travelling with their nearest and dearest rather than a stranger – however famous.
“Our prize draw puts one of the most desirable vehicles on the road today within reach but if your partner isn’t available and George Clooney calls, he’s likely to lose out on a lift to Mary Berry.”
Top Gear loud mouth Jeremy Clarkson was fifth with 2% of the votes, ahead of Nicole Scherzinger, Simon Cowell and Boris Johnson. George Clooney could only manage ninth position and Brad Pitt tenth.
Top of a corresponding nightmare passenger list was: Kim Kardashian, closely followed by fiancé Kanye West, third was Katy Price and fourth was the driver’s in-laws.
Gwyneth Paltrow made it onto the list in fifth place, proving an even less attractive a proposition some of our top politicians - Ed Milliband made it to sixth place with comedian Jimmy Carr separating him from eighth placed David Cameron.
Jeremy Clarkson also made an appearance on the dreaded car passenger, just above last place Lib-Dem leader Nick Clegg.
