Hemtex is maintaining its strong position as the leader in the Swedish market for home textiles. Measured over the past half year (January-June 2008), Hemtex’s market share declined to 27.5%, compared with 30.5% during the corresponding period in 2007. The closest competitors accounted for 12.7 and 9.8%, respectively.

During the first half of 2008, the value of the total market for home textile products declined by 3%, according to figures released by market research company GfK. According to GfK, lower prices are inhibiting the market, since the number of units sold increased by 4%, while the average price decreased by a full 7%.

“As previously stated, the first half of 2008 started with weak demand for home textile products. This has been confirmed by the report from GfK, and our own figures also show a continued decline in market share down to the level reported in the first quarter. The trend in our market share should be viewed in the light of the reduction in purchasing volume that was decided in order to adapt our inventory volume ahead of the second half of 2008, which to some extent resulted in a reduced flow of news during the spring”, says Hemtex President and CEO, Anders Jansson, adding:

“We believe we have excellent opportunities of increasing our market shares again during the autumn, with our product-range development and new communication strategy being the key to our success.”

Hemtex’s interim report for the period May-July 2008 will be published on Wednesday, September 3, 2008.
