Hilti Release the Market's First Single Cartridge Fastening Tool to Boost Jobsite Productivity

The DX 6 direct fastening tool is the first of its kind to hit the global construction market, with one universal cartridge that can be used across a variety of applications.

Traditionally, construction workers have had to load and unload different cartridges to fasten various materials to concrete or steel. This inevitably slows workers down, especially if they’re moving between jobsites with a varying workload. The DX 6 removes this step with one universal cartridge that can be used across different applications, whether that’s fastening drywall, insulation, waterproofing or formwork. With less time spent swapping cartridges, workers can complete jobs quicker, boost jobsite productivity and meet their deadlines earlier.

There is, however, the option to purchase a second heavy duty cartridge for particularly robust applications. This cartridge has a market-leading energy range between 140-345 J, so is a powerful addition for those that need it.

The DX 6 also has the following features:

  • Bluetooth connectivity which alerts the user’s smartphone when it needs a clean or service. This means maintenance can be planned in advance at a convenient time, avoiding any last-minute surprises.
  • One-push button for quick disassembly, making cleaning easier than ever.
  • Intuitive front-facing regulation wheel that’s perfectly situated for speedy power adjustments – ideal if workers are moving between jobs with different materials.

By simplifying these processes, the DX 6 can help to improve jobsite productivity, allowing construction companies to buy back wasted time and increase their profit margins.

Although the benefits of direct fastening speak for themselves in terms of efficiency, the health and safety benefits are often overlooked. Traditional fastening methods, like drilling and fixing for example, produce a lot of dust that is potentially harmful to those in the construction industry. The HSE estimates that more than 500 people die each year from inhaling silica dust, while approximately 4,000 people die every year from COPD. The DX 6, in comparison, is virtually dust-free as the direct nail fastening removes the need for drilling.

Arman Ahmad, Hilti Product Manager for Direct Fastening, adds: “We understand how important productivity and health and safety are to our customers, which is why we’re always looking for new ways to enhance both. Direct fastening in general is much safer than traditional drilling and fixing, but the DX 6 gives workers that ease of use and versatility we know they look for, so we’re really excited to see what they think.”
