Corenet has launched a new service for providing real-time information for public transportation passengers, giving the travelers real-time details of the travel itinerary as well as other useful and interesting information such as weather forecasts and news. HiQ is responsible for the user experience of the service and contributes to the design and implementation of its functionalities.

The service, based on wireless network and real-time information management, promotes the use of sustainable means of transportation and is already in use in Tampere City Transport buses as well as in VR trains, a Finnish train company.

”Our goal was to create a service concept that enhances comfort and safety of passengers by answering to their individual needs for information. The service enables our customers to influence people’s transportation choices in general and, thus, support sustainable means of transportation. Our collaboration with HiQ allows us to provide our customers with an attractive up-to-date information and entertainment solution that supports these goals,” says Timo Kataja, manager responsible for wireless services at Corenet.

The project is a continuation of an earlier project in which HiQ implemented an application for real-time monitoring of WLAN networks for Corenet. HiQ has delivered several projects to public transportation e.g. for Swedish State Railways (Statens Järnvägar, SJ), Veolia and Stockholm Local Transport (Stockholms lokaltrafik).

”This is an interesting project that makes a difference in everyday life. Corenet is a top expert in communication solutions and is familiar with the needs of the field. HiQ has high-level knowledge of mobile technology and user experience. Our collaboration guarantees the best possible result,” says Jukka Rautio, Managing Director of HiQ Finland.

Corenet is a Finnish service provider specializing in implementation, maintenance and integration of critical systems. Corenet employs about 200 telecommunications solutions and telematics systems experts in 13 localities. In 2010, the company’s turnover was 37,6 MEUR.
