HiQ project-managed the final part of the extensive work on upgrading Com Hem’s network in the Stockholm region – the largest individual modernisation project ever undertaken by Com Hem.

300,000 households in the Stockholm area were affected when Com Hem decided to carry out an extensive upgrade of the old UPC network in three phases. The third and most extensive phase took place last year and involved visits to 15,700 network locations in a total of 14,000 properties in order to replace the unit which provides the property’s network.

“HiQ has collaborated with Com Hem for many years. In this project HiQ was involved in securing completion of the third and biggest phase, during which we had a project manager based at Com Hem. This upgrade has considerably improved the capacity of Com Hem’s network,” says Bo Ringdahl, Managing Director of HiQ Stockholm.

In total 100 people were involved in the work of updating the Stockholm network, which extends from Järfälla in the north to Salem in the south and from Bromma in the west to Lidingö in the east. A positive trend is clearly noticeable. Since November 2009 the number of customer service calls from customers of the Stockholm network has fallen by 33%. The improvement is a result of better routines and processes in general, but also a result of the modernisation. The modernisation also means that Com Hem can now handle more problems centrally rather than having to go out to the properties to correct faults as previously, which has lead to quicker service for the customers.

“The largest modernisation project in Com Hem's history has now been successfully concluded. It means we can offer all our customers on the network 100 Mbit/s broadband, On Demand, faster service and better quality services. Our collaboration with HiQ on this project worked extremely well; the project was delivered on schedule and benefited from clear communication as well as effective logistics,” says Martin Kull, Chief Technology Officer and Director of Business Development at Com Hem.
