HiQ HELPS BUILD SYSTEM FOR SIMPLER CHARGING OF ELECTRIC CARSbuild

HiQ has in the ELVIIS project helped the Viktoria Institute and its partners, Volvo Car Corporation, Göteborg Energi and Ericsson develop a cross-industry platform allowing drivers to control charging of electric cars. This innovative research project across several industries, will bring mobile connectivity to electric cars and put choice and control over the charging into the hands of drivers.

“The purpose is to increase usability for drivers and build an ecosystem making it easier to deploy electric cars around the world. It was very inspiring to contribute to the innovative cross-industry project ELVIIS, aiming to simplify the lives of thousands upon thousands of drivers”, says Jerker Lindstén, Managing Director, HiQ Göteborg.

The new platform concept allows drivers to control charging of cars while they are plugged into any ordinary power outlet. Additionally, the system directs energy costs to the car owners’/drivers´ bill. The driver sets the time when the car shall be ready on a console in the car or remotely via a smart phone or tablet. The system calculates when to charge based on, among other things, the load on the electric grid.
