Horatio Alger Association of Canada Establishes Quebec Scholarship Program

Association Provides up to $5,000 in Financial Assistance for University Students

(September 26, 2012 Quebec, Can) The Horatio Alger Association of Canada is pleased to announce the establishment of the Quebec Scholarship Program in honor of former Prime Minister of Canada, Mr. Brian Mulroney. The application for the 2013 scholarship opens today, and students currently enrolled in the terminal year of CEGEP/college and who plan to begin a degree at a university in Canada in the fall of 2013 are encouraged to apply. The application is available from September 15 - November 15, 2012, and winners of the scholarship receive up to

$5,000 in financial aid for tuition, room and board, and other school-related expenses. To apply

Founded in 2009, the Horatio Alger Association of Canada awards scholarships to students who have critical financial need and have demonstrated integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity as well as strength of character, a good academic record, a commitment to pursue a college or university education, and a desire to contribute to society.

The eligibility criteria to be considered for the Horatio Alger Quebec Scholarship Program are as follows:

     Enrollment in the terminal year of CEGEP/college and plan to begin a degree at a university  in Canadain the fall of 2013;

     Critical financial need ($50,000 or less net income per family is preferred. If higher an explanation must be provided);

     Involvement in extracurricular and community activities;

     A minimum Global Average R Score of 25;

     Attend a CEGEP/college and live in Quebec, Canada; and

     Canadian citizenship.
