Ylläksen Yöpuu, the Holiday Village in Ylläs, offers a unique Northern Lights Guarantee to its customers. If the Northern Lights do not appear during the week in which they stay at Yöpuu, the owner will refund the guest 50% of the price of the accommodation.

Ylläksen Yöpuu entrepreneur Vesa Kaulanen, also renowned for his Eagle safaris and Bird-TV, is now making a bold new offering to its guests. Kaulanen guarantees to customers, staying for a week in Ylläksen Yöpuu, that the Northern Lights will appear. If there are no sightings of Northern Lights during the week, the guest will have half of the cost of their accommodation returned.

The Northern Lights guarantee is valid from September to mid-December and throughout January.

"We have claimed for many years that the Ylläs area is one of the best Aurora-tourism destinations in the Nordic countries, and now is the time to deliver a product which shows that we stand firmly by this" explains Kaulanen.

“We dare to give a guarantee because in the Ylläs area there is around a 60-70% chance of seeing the Northern Lights whenever the weather is clear.”

Ylläs has invested in Aurora-themed tourism for a long time. Since 2012, the village street lights have been turned off each evening at the best times to see Northern Lights. Twilight starts on 3rd October and runs to 19th February. During this period, the street lights are switched off every night between 10pm and 6am.

Ylläs has also had its own Northern Lights App “Ylläs Aurora” since 2013. You can download this App to track and be alerted to Aurora observations in the area.

"The Northern Lights are the North’s own inexhaustible natural resource, offering travellers a unique experience. As the trend for nature tourism grows around the world, this type of experience satisfies the principles and practices of sustainable tourism and increases the value of the natural resource." says Visit Ylläs Marketing Manager Janne-Juhani Haarma.

Ylläs also offers travellers Finland's largest ski resort, the most extensive cross-country ski trail network and unique winter biking and snowshoeing opportunities. In Ylläs you will find the genuine Lapland in traditional villages, but with modern services.

Finnair, Lufthansa, Germania and Monarch offer seasonal scheduled flights to Kittilä Airport, 40 minutes drive from Ylläs.
