Humana joins the Science Based Targets initiative and commits to working towards science-based climate targets

Humana has joined the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and commits to setting both a near-term climate target and a long-term net-zero target within 24 months. Through this commitment, Humana strengthens its efforts to contribute to reducing climate emissions and building a sustainable future in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement.

By joining SBTi, Humana’s climate targets will be based on the latest scientific findings and validated by SBTi to ensure they align with the global goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees. Humana’s climate targets will be published once they have been reviewed and approved by SBTi.

– As a responsible care provider, it is our duty to contribute to sustainable development. Joining the Science Based Targets initiative is a natural next step in our sustainability efforts and underscores our commitment to taking responsibility for both people and the planet, says Humana’s President and CEO, Nathalie Boulas Nilsson.

Humana is already actively working to reduce its climate impact through efficient resource utilization, energy-efficient properties, and sustainable solutions in its daily operations. Through this new commitment, Humana reinforces its focus on further reducing emissions and contributing to a climate-neutral society.

– Our vision is that everyone is entitled to a good life. By setting and achieving science-based climate targets, we take further steps toward creating a sustainable future for our customers, employees, and society at large, concludes Nathalie Boulas Nilsson.

The Science Based Targets initiative is a global collaboration between CDP, the UN Global Compact, the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). The initiative aims to mobilize companies to set science-based targets that help curb climate change.
