Offenbach, 2 July 2012

UEFA EUROTOP partner, Hyundai, brought together fans around Europe to witness an emphatic 4-0 victory for Spain over Italy as UEFA EURO 2012 ended at the Olympic Stadium in Kiev, Ukraine, last night.

Hyundai has been at the heart of the championship from the start, hosting crowds totaling 4,4 million at the Fan Parks and helping to bring football lovers closer to the game. For the deciding match, the atmosphere in Madrid and Turin was truly memorable, as hopeful fans gathered to witness the dynamism and excitement that makes football the most popular sport around the globe.

Only the 450.000 Spanish fans in the Madrid Fan Park were celebrating by the end of the evening, but there was plenty to entertain the crowds at each location on this special occasion. As for all fixtures during the month-long tournament, the crowds attending the Fan Parks last night not only had the benefit of big screens to watch the match. Hyundai also provided plenty of on-site entertainment, including the fun and interactive Digital Goodwill Ball, and live music performances.

Throughout UEFA EURO 2012, visitors to the Fan Parks have been able to take test-drives in a new Hyundai, including the New Generation i30 – itself a European star, designed, engineered and manufactured in Europe, for Europeans.

A new initiative this year is Team Hyundai – a constant reminder to supporters of Hyundai’s involvement with the beautiful game. Team Hyundai is a unique collective of players who, like Hyundai, share game-changer status. One of these players, Spanish captain Iker Casillas, once again demonstrated his world-class ability, making great saves and keeping a clean sheet to drive ‘La Roja’ to the trophy. The other Team Hyundai players are Lukas Podolski (Germany), Giuseppe Rossi (Italy), Karim Benzema (France) and Daniel Sturridge (England).

Mark Hall, Marketing Director at Hyundai Motor Europe, commented: “UEFA EURO 2012 has been a memorable tournament, from the opening goal scored by co-hosts Poland, through to Team Hyundai star Iker Casillas lifting the trophy for Spain. Congratulations to the winners and to all players and supporters who have contributed to the dynamism, passion and excitement of the past four weeks. As a proud partner of UEFA, we’re thrilled to have brought together so many fans through numerous Hyundai initiatives, helping to make it an event that will be long cherished.”
