Hyundai Motor Manufactures the 500,000th Car at its Russia Factory
- Russia's most loved car, the Solaris, is the 500,000th car
- More than 6,200 manufacturing-related jobs created by the facility
August 15, 2013 – Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Russia (HMMR) in Saint-Petersburg held a ceremony for the production of its 500,000th car. A red Russia-exclusive Solaris sedan with an automatic gearbox and 1.6-liter engine is the anniversary car. The Governor of Saint-Petersburg Georgy Poltavchenko and General Director of Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Russia Shin Myeong Ki as well as dealers and customers attend the celebration, but the guests of honor were the employees of the plant. The employees were given a special mention during the ceremony for their dedication and efforts without which the plant’s success would not have been possible.
The ceremony marks the company’s achievement of 500,000 manufactured cars within a period of two years and a half since the start of mass production in January 2011. By the end of 2011, Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Russia increased production capacity up to 200,000 cars annually and since then, provided more than 2,200 job opportunities for locals. Currently, high level of automation and robotization of the production process ensures high quality of manufactured cars and appropriate working conditions for employees at the plant.
In collaboration with Russian suppliers, Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Russia reached a 47 percent rate of localization, creating more than 4,000 working places. Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Russia has also become one of the largest tax payers in Saint-Petersburg in 2012, according to the Committee for Industrial Policy and Innovations. The plant is also a leader eco-friendly industrial management with air and water purification systems in operation and recycling of waste materials such as metal and plastic.
The 500,000th car from the assembly line of HMMR is the Solaris, which has truly become the people’s car in Russia in just two years and a half since its release. In record time, the Solaris won over Russian customers, becoming a bestseller among foreign cars and receiving the Car of the Year award in Russia twice – in 2012 and 2013.
