IBISWorld catches up with Darren Johnson at The Lucas Group to find out firsthand what’s going on within his industry

IW:  What challenge do you and The Lucas Group face right now?

DJ:  Today’s economic environment means that industries and companies are forced to react to uncertainty faster than ever.  They can’t stand still, so they are forced to take action and are constantly changing; the implication is that knowledge obtained last year could already be outdated by now.  While it’s great to have decades of experience in a particular subject, it’s also essential to stay up-to-date on the most recent industry trends and dynamics.

IW:  How does IBISWorld help you overcome this challenge?

DJ:  We can’t afford to rely on outdated research.  IBISWorld’s research and reports help us stay up-to-date with the most current and important industry trends.  Their work is especially helpful when we need to quickly learn about an industry we don’t have specific expertise in.  This provides a good baseline knowledge for us to build on, as we then conduct extensive primary research on the industry to further improve upon our expertise and inform our decision-making process.

IW:  What do you foresee happening within your industry in the next year?

DJ:  I think the next year will be extremely positive for the consulting industry.  We are very eager to continue to help companies rebound from the recession, and are delighted to see many of them now posting strong gains.  Clients realize the benefits of consulting, especially in a turbulent economic environment, and I think this will be reflected by a pickup in industry activity over the next 12 months.

IW:  What's something interesting about yourself that most people don't know?

DJ:  I am an avid soccer player and golfer, and tackled the links at St. Andrews, Scotland this past July!
