Insider’s Corner Q&A: Chris Mitchell
IW: What challenge do you and Dixon Hughes Goodman LLP face right now?
CM: Many of our clients expect us to be fortune-tellers. They may want to know the outlook for their business or they may want to know how a particular event impacted the future of their business. With business valuation being a “forward looking” process, our challenge is to blend the historical results with the future outlook. This can be particularly challenging during volatile economic times.
IW: How does IBISWorld help you overcome this challenge?
CM: IBISWorld helps us to filter out the noise and focus on key areas impacting the future of our client’s industry. IBISWorld also provides us objective data we can use as the basis for forming our opinions.
IW: What do you foresee happening in your industry within the next year?
CM: Uncertainty surrounding tax law should positively impact our tax compliance, planning, and valuation work. Litigation services and dispute work has been steady through the down economy and we anticipate it to remain steady as the economy expands. As companies keep moving and changing, the keys to success are to stay informed and realize that the business world will not stay stagnant.
IW: Tell us something interesting about yourself:
CM: I have always been an avid fan of college athletics. I hope to take my two sons to a Final Four and a College World Series sometime in the near future.
