Insider’s Corner Q&A: Rob Schlegel, ASA, MCBA
IW: What challenge do you and Houlihan Valuation Advisors face right now?
RS: We struggle with proper valuation analysis during the economic recession and the slow, but on-going recovery. Market metrics fluctuate widely during periods of economic uncertainty, creating opportunities for value, but also magnifying risk.
IW: How does IBISWorld help you overcome this challenge?
RS: IBISWorld is one of our key information sources for industry analysis. The insights are timely, and offer a quick source of information for the business appraiser that is necessary to derive valuation judgements of potential risks and rewards of investment.
IW: What do you foresee happening in your industry within the next year?
RS: The demand for business appraisal services will continue to grow throughout 2012, both for value in exchange (merger & acqusitions, tax related, etc.) and for financial reporting (fair value). International issues including cost of capital are increasingly becoming important considerations.
IW: Tell us something interesting about yourself:
RS: I enjoy playing ragtime piano. My gigs, however, are usually for the local nursing homes where most of folks are nearly deaf.
