Apotek Hjärtat, a wholly owned subsidiary of ICA Gruppen, has now completed the sale of its care and nursing business (Vård och omsorg). The buyer is ApoEx, which is active in the same areas. The purchase sum of SEK 62 million is in line with the book value after transaction-related costs.

Vård och omsorg is a business area of Apotek Hjärtat that provides pharmaceuticals and related services to the healthcare sector in several regions and county councils, as well as to a number of private healthcare providers. The business area also includes Apovet, with a strong position in the Swedish market for veterinary medicines.

Both the Swedish Competition Authority and the Swedish Medical Products Agency have previously granted approval of the sale of the care and nursing business. Today the purchase is formally completed. The buyer, ApoEx, is Sweden’s largest privately owned supplier of pharmaceuticals to the healthcare sector and is active in the same areas. As a result of the sale, Apotek Hjärtat will refine its pharmacy business towards the outpatient care market.

The Vård och omsorg business area had sales of approximately SEK 830 million in 2014. The divestment is expected to have only a marginal effect on Apotek Hjärtat’s operating profit. Tony Rydberg, who was responsible for the Vård- och omsorg business area, will join ApoEx and thereby leave Apotek Hjärtat, where he was a member of the management group.
