Eric Lundberg new CEO of ICA Sweden, and Monika Magnusson new CEO of Apotek Hjärtat
Anders Svensson has chosen to leave ICA Sweden after 13 years in the role as CEO. Eric Lundberg, currently CEO of Apotek Hjärtat, has been named as the new CEO of ICA Sweden. In connection with this, Monika Magnusson, Director of Sales at Apotek Hjärtat, has been named to succeed Eric Lundberg as the new CEO of Apotek Hjärtat.
“Today I am happy to announce the appointment of two new CEOs within ICA Gruppen, who we have recruited internally. Both are respected leaders who are passionate about developing our businesses together with all of our competent employees. At the same time, I want to thank Anders Svensson for his great contributions and leadership, which have been highly instrumental in strengthening the position that ICA has today,” comments Per Strömberg, CEO of ICA Gruppen.
Eric Lundberg assumes his role as CEO of ICA Sweden on 1 September. Anders Svensson will stay on at ICA Sweden through the third quarter to ensure a smooth transition.
“It is with great pride that I leave behind 13 eventful years as CEO of ICA Sweden, where together with all of the passionate retailers and employees we have strengthened ICA’s brand and position in the market, grown sales and profitability, and driven ICA Sweden’s digital transformation. My decision to leave ICA evolved during the spring, and it now feels like a suitable point in time for me to hand over the leadership role to Eric Lundberg,” comments Anders Svensson, departing Deputy CEO of ICA Gruppen and CEO of ICA Sweden.
Eric Lundberg has worked for ICA Gruppen since 1 May 2021 as CEO of Apotek Hjärtat. Prior to this he had nearly 20 years of experience from various positions in the Swedish retail industry, including as Group CEO of Kjell & Company.
“It is a great honour to be entrusted with driving the ICA Idea forward through ICA Sweden in what is both an exciting and challenging time for the grocery retail trade,” comments Eric Lundberg, CEO-elect of ICA Sweden. “Helping to make every day a little easier for our customers, in cooperation with our employees and retailers, feels more important than ever before.”
Monika Magnusson has more than 20 years of experience from senior positions in several different parts of the pharmacy industry, most recently as Director of Sales at Apotek Hjärtat, a role she has held since 2020, following several other positions in the company. Monika was initially a pharmacist by trade.
“Apotek Hjärtat is currently in the midst of an exciting journey, and I feel a very strong commitment for our mission,” comments Monika Magnusson, CEO-elect of Apotek Hjärtat. “Naturally, I have great respect for this new role, but at the same time I feel secure in competence and attention that all of my colleagues at Apotek Hjärtat have in place. I am looking forward to working together with them to pursue our plan of building together our already so highly appreciated physical customer relations with new, digital opportunities to create a superior total customer experience.”
Monika Magnusson will assume her position as CEO of Apotek Hjärtat on 1 September.
ICA Gruppen today has also announced the appointment of a new CEO of ICA Gruppen. See separate press release:
“In view of the changes that have now taken place, I am proud that we have managed to make internal appointments for all of these key roles within ICA Gruppen, where I also include Nina Jönsson, given her background with ICA,” says Claes-Göran Sylvén, Chairman of ICA Gruppen. “This shows that our focus on internal mobility and the succession process that we work with allow us to build leaders for our most important roles. I am very enthusiastic and happy about the leaders, employees and retailers in the ICA family as we now take on the future in a highly exciting and challenging time.”
