ICA Gruppen presents strategic priorities and estimated margin effect from online
Today, 9 December 2020, ICA Gruppen is arranging a Capital Markets Day in digital format. During the Capital Markets Day ICA Gruppen’s strategic step-change areas will be presented. ICA Gruppen also reports that the start-up of ICA Sweden’s new online solution, which is implemented to meet the rapid growth online, will have an estimated margin effect of approximately -0.1 % for ICA Sweden during 2021 and less than -0.1 % in 2022.
The new market conditions brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic have led to a greater focus on price value, new ways of working, tougher requirements for functioning supply chains and a greater interest in health and sustainability; but above all, 2020 has been distinguished by accelerating growth in online sales.
To meet demand ICA Gruppen continues to invest in the online channel. The coming two years will entail two important steps in ICA Sweden’s e-commerce business. One of these is a platform change for customers and stores, and the other is the start-up of the new, highly automated dark store in Stockholm. It is estimated that the new online solutions for ICA Sweden will have a margin effect of approximately -0.1% in 2021 and less than -0.1% in 2022.
Apotek Hjärtat is taking market shares online and is now concentrating on further strengthening its presence and creating more profitable online business. Rimi Baltic continues to expand its online offering, which started this year.
The company also notes that the capex level for 2021 is estimated to be SEK 3,500 million, which is lower than this year’s level of approximately SEK 5,000 million. The difference between the years is mainly due to a lower level of investment in ICA Real Estate, which carried out a major acquisition of a warehouse property in 2020.
ICA Gruppen is financially strong and has a clear strategy for the future. This makes the company well equipped to meet the new normal. During the coming years ICA Gruppen will focus on a number of updated strategic step-change areas. The five step-change areas that relate to all, or large parts, of the Group are:
• Strengthened food ecosystem
• Data driven transformation supported by AI/AA
• Transformation to reduce cost and build new capabilities
• Climate beyond neutrality
• Make healthy choices easy
On top of these five areas are a number of additional step-changes that pertain to the respective companies’ specific businesses.
The Capital Markets Day can be followed via ICA Gruppen’s website.
