ICA Gruppen has taken the decision to build a new freezer warehouse in Hacksta, Västerås. The decision covers the construction of a new logistics building of approximately 23,000 square metres with a highly automated warehousing operation. The new warehouse will be built adjacent to ICA’s existing warehouse in Västerås and is expected to begin operating in 2025. The combined investment is worth approximately SEK 1.8 billion and is in line with the development plan for the Västerås property, which was acquired in April 2020.

Expanded breadth of the range and larger volume growth have created a need for larger freezer capacity in ICA Sweden’s logistics operations. To meet this need for capacity, ICA Real Estate and ICA Sweden are investing in a new logistics property for frozen products in Västerås. The warehouse will be equipped with a highly automated warehousing solution.

“This is a future-oriented and important investment to promote growth of both the existing and future product range. Development and modernisation of our warehouses is a continually ongoing process to raise delivery quality for our customers and the work environment for our employees. The new freezer warehouse will strengthen our product supply to stores and make us more competitive in the market,” says Anders Svensson, CEO of ICA Sverige AB.
