£5000 up for grabs for local sporting or active leisure group

Today sees the launch of a campaign that will result in a local youth sporting or active leisure organisation being awarded a massive £5000 grant.

The campaign, which is being run by The Mall Blackburn as part of its Mall Cares initiative, is aimed at rewarding the hard work of teams, charities or companies that promote exercise and a healthy lifestyle as well as providing excellent sporting activities for the stars of tomorrow.

These can include dance troops, swimming clubs, skateboarding groups, football teams, martial arts organisations, basketball teams, rock climbing clubs, hockey teams or any other organisation that can be classed as sports or active leisure.

Local people are being urged to nominate deserving groups that are aimed at the under 21’s and three shortlisted ones will then compete for the public vote in their bid for a £5,000 charitable grant.

All suggestions submitted before Monday 6thFebruary will be counted and the six organisations that receive the most nominations will be whittled down to three by The Mall’s judging panel.

Then the battle to win the £5000 grant will commence. Every shopper who spends £20 in The Mall between 13thFebruary and 10thSeptember will get a token with which to vote for his or her preferred organisation.

The one with the most votes will be crowned the champion! The two runners up will each receive £300 in recognition of their work.

“Throughout what is undoubtedly a hugely important year for sport throughout the UK our Mall Cares Initiative will focus on making a real difference to young people in Lancashire, giving them a greater opportunity to engage in sport and exercise.

“We hope our shoppers will get behind this campaign and we look forward to rewarding the people’s chosen organisation.”
