Blackpool Zoo is hailing its 40thanniversary year as its busiest yet with visitor numbers, revenue, internet sales and school visits all hitting all-time highs! VERY SPECIAL BOY BORN IN A STABLE

There is a truly festive feel in the air at Blackpool Zoo after the birth of a very special boy in one of its stables. The male Hartmann’s Mountain Zebra foal, which is yet to be named, is only the fourth of his kind to be born in the UK for the past decade and he is a hugely significant addition to the European Endangered Species Programme. The best thing about Lancashire is its people, according to a survey carried out by The Mall Blackburn to celebrate Lancashire Day. More than 50 per cent of voters in the We Love Lancashire Facebook poll said Lancashire folk were what they loved most about the county while the weather polled the least number of votes! BABY GORILLA IS EARLY CHRISTMAS PRESENT FOR BLACKPOOL ZOO

Christmas has come early for Blackpool Zoo  following the birth of a critically endangered Western Lowland Gorilla. Njema, who is 19, gave birth to a healthy baby in the early hours of November 8th following a natural and uncomplicated labour. The baby, whose sex is yet to be determined, has been an instant hit with two year old Meisie the gorilla, who is intrigued at the prospect of having a new playmate! First time mother Njema underwent revolutionary fertility testing earlier this year after keepers became concerned that she had not conceived.

ELEPHANT’S VIP BIRTHDAY PARTY RAISES £3800 FOR CHARITY!

More than 700 members and guests gathered at Blackpool Zoo to celebrate the 40th birthday of Marcella the Asian elephant. The special event, which raised a fantastic £3800 for The Biodiversity and Elephant Conservation Trust, was held after hours on Wednesday 22nd August from 6.00pm to 9.00pm.
