CHILDREN from across Lancashire had a really wild time when Blackpool Zoo visited The Mall Blackburn.

Blackpool Zoo gave visitors to The Mall Blackburn the chance to get up close and personal with its Madagascan Hissing Cockroaches.

The multi-award winning attraction also brought a whole host of animal artefacts including skeletons and skulls from around the globe as well as an elephant’s tooth and elephant poo!

Martin Richman, from Blackburn, was shopping with his family including two-year-old granddaughter Jodie Clark and his daughter-in-law’s niece Ellis O’Donnell.

He said: “The girls had a wonderful time seeing the creepy crawlies – they couldn’t stop talking about it afterwards. It was very educational for them and really exciting for us all.”

Ten-year-old Josie Mullin from Blackburn had a great time too. Her Dad, Robert, said: “Josie was very excited about holding the cockroaches. She loves animals but I didn’t know she liked cockroaches, I hope she doesn’t want one for Christmas!”

Loraine Jones, General Manager at The Mall Blackburn, said: “We were delighted to welcome Blackpool Zoo to The Mall Blackburn once again. Children were really excited about seeing and holding the hissing Madagascan cockroaches. It was The Mall Blackburn’s very own really wild show!”

Jude Rothwell, Marketing and PR Co-ordinator at Blackpool Zoo, added: “The Madagascan Hissing Cockroaches are a firm favourite in our Creepy Crawley Corner at Blackpool Zoo and the people of Blackburn and beyond gave them a very warm welcome!

“People were also very interested in the animal artefacts we brought and we hope everyone that visited us went away having learned something new.”
