The Mall Blackburn is set to be rewarded for its green credentials at an esteemed awards ceremony in the House of Commons!

Management at the shopping centre will be presented with a hugely sought after Nation Green Apple Environment Award following work to reduce its carbon footprint through its Corporate Social Responsibility, Environmental Accountability and EnviroMall initiatives.

It fought off stiff competition from more than 500 entries in the Shopping Centre category.

Following the ceremony, which will be held on Monday 12th November, The Mall will also become an International Green Hero and, as well as being presented with an additional trophy at Canary Wharf next Spring, its work will be used as a best practice case study in ‘The Green Book’, which is distributed to businesses, governments, ministers, universities, reference libraries, environmental professionals, local authorities and the media across the globe.

The Mall Blackburn works tirelessly to incorporate green practices into each area of the business including business travel plans, energy management, pollution and emission reduction, waste management and recycling.

David Williams, Deputy Operations Manager at The Mall Blackburn, assists in the organisation of all green initiatives and was responsible for putting the awards submission together.

He said: “We are absolutely delighted to be receiving this award as it cements our dedication to the environment and allows us to pass on our knowledge and experience to companies around the world.

“We have a fantastic team here in The Mall and everyone, at every level, has contributed to the initiatives that have earned us this recognition.

“Of course, our work is on-going and we will continue our efforts to champion green practices in everything we do.”

David will attend the National Green Apple Award in the House of Commons along with The Mall Blackburn’s General Manager, Loraine Jones, and Cleaning Manager Janet Owens.
